I should have

thought that the number issued could have been told me on the day after Chinese New Year, and what is more, I think it should have been. You realize that these things were sent out to a number of different officers who worked on ships, who were not always available, and therefore I would have to wait till I could get in touch with these officers and get the returns from them before I could find out how many deposit receipts were issued by each?

I should not have thought it would take six weeks.

That should be obvious from their returns which are in your own

office.
